Get to know your Xumo Large Button remote

The Large Button remote is an advanced voice remote equipped with easy-to-see buttons voice search technology designed to make streaming easier by getting you to your next watch faster. Large Button remotes can be requested or purchased from Spectrum.

If your Large Button remote isn't working, here are a few things to try:

  1. Check the batteries: Ensure the batteries in your remote are fresh and inserted correctly. 
  2. Reset and re-pair: Try resetting and re-pairing your remote. Go to the How do I reset my Large Button remote? section for instructions on resetting your remote, then the How do I pair my Large Button remote to my Xumo Stream Box? section for instructions on pairing your remote again.
  3. Chat with a live Xumo Agent: Select “Start Chat” at the bottom of this page to talk to a Xumo Agent live.

How do I reset my Large Button remote?

Resetting your remote can help resolve a variety of issues. To reset your remote:

  1. Press and hold the  blobid1.pngand  blobid2.pngbuttons on your remote until the LED at the top of the remote turns green.
  2. Press 9, then 8, then 1 on your remote and wait for the LED at the top of the remote to flash red to indicate your remote has reset.

How do I pair my Large Button remote to my Xumo Stream Box?

To utilize voice controls, your remote needs to be paired to your device. When initially setting up your device, make sure you have a clear line of sight between the remote and the device and follow the instructions on-screen when they indicate to pair your remote.

To pair your remote after initial device setup, try one of the following:

  • Press the btn_voice_1.pngbutton on your remote and wait 10 seconds. Your screen will say “Connecting: We are currently connecting your remote” followed by “Your remote is now connected”.
  • Hold the 1 and 3 buttons for 3 seconds, then wait 10 seconds. Your screen will say “Connecting: We are currently connecting your remote” followed by “Your remote is now connected”.

If pairing still fails:

  1. Turn off your TV and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Reset your remote following the instructions above.
  3. Plug the device back in and turn on your TV.
  4. Repeat the pairing remote instructions.

If that doesn’t work:

Replace the batteries in your remote and repeat the pairing remote instructions.

Why doesn’t my voice remote recognize my voice commands?

Voice commands only work when your remote is paired and your device is connected to the internet. To check if your device is online, go to Settings > Network and make sure the device is connected. If it’s not, try reconnecting to the internet or restarting your modem or router.

If your device is connected but your remote still isn’t recognizing your voice commands, make sure you’re speaking clearly and at a natural, conversational volume.

There are a couple ways to utilize the Large Button remote's voice command feature.

  • Hold the remote 1-8 inches away from your face, then press and hold the Voice Control button until you're done talking.
  • Utilize tap-to-talk, exclusively on the Large Button remote. Tap the Voice Control button and say your voice command within 2.5 seconds without holding the button down. You'll hear a tone when the mic activates and another when it deactivates.

Tip: Reducing background noise can help your device recognize your voice commands.
